Deepest relaxation ever.

Desert Reset was my first introduction to hypnotherapy and I liked it very much!
— Past Resetter

Hypnotherapy, a proven tool for change.

Close your eyes, take a deep breath, retreat from the world, and gently turn your attention within yourself...ahhhh...that is hypnotherapy.
Typically, retreats don’t include hypnotherapy, but we can’t understand why not! Hypnotherapy is a proven, effective means for easing a wide variety of physical, emotional, and psychological problems and issues. It’s also an enlightening spiritual aid in accessing your highest self and deeper knowledge. Besides the location of the Joshua Tree area, hypnotherapy is what makes Desert Reset so special and unique. In fact, Desert Reset is the only ongoing hypnotherapy-based and yoga retreat in the world. If you've ever wanted to try hypnotherapy or are simply hypno-curious, then Desert Reset is for you. Participants are suprised and amazed at how much they love hypnotherapy. Not only can it be revelatory and life-changing, it's fun, too!

We get excited about introducing new people to the power of their subconscious mind and to hypnotherapy as a tool for positive change. Like a guided meditation, you will be led into the deepest parts of YOU to gain deeper self-insight, release old patterns and blocks, and take a quantum life leap. In a group setting, hypnotherapy is a powerful tool for healing and self-discovery.

Each hypnotherapy session is specially designed to build on the last, culminating by the end of the weekend in an inspired, reinvirgorated you!

Initially, I was interested in the retreat for the yoga and location in the high desert. Ultimately, I loved the retreat for the hypnotherapy, Cynthia and Brad, the other participants, the nurturing security and the feeling of peace and joy that have become part of my spirit. The yoga and location were as wonderful as I hoped, too! I am already looking forward to returning next May.

Hypnotherapy is hot! There is a lot of curiosity about hypnosis these days, and with that interest comes plenty of questions. We hope this FAQ section answers your questions and expands your understanding of this transformative healing modality. If you don’t see your question answered, don’t hesitate to Contact us. We’re here to help!

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a completely safe and natural, yet altered, state of mind. In hypnosis your mind is singularly focused and alert. There is nothing strange or weird about hypnosis. You enter hypnotic states daily through daydreaming, driving (have you ever missed your exit because you were lost in thought?), playing a sport (often called being in the zone), and watching television. This trance-like state is similar to being completely absorbed in a book, movie, music, or even one's own thoughts or meditations. In the hypnotic state there is a feeling of the world fading away and retreating to a different, deeper part of yourself.

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis for therapeutic reasons. Hypnotherapy is guided hypnosis, or a trance-like state of focus and concentration achieved with the help of a clinical hypnotherapist. In this state, very much like a guided meditation, you can turn your attention completely inward to find and utilize the natural resources deep within yourself that can help you make changes in certain areas of your life.

Hypnotherapy is the soothing process of directing subconscious thought toward patterns of healthy living. It has been used for over 100 years to help people with issues from low self-esteem to breaking bad habits. Hypnotherapy is a proven, effective means for easing a wide variety of physical, emotional, and psychological problems. It induces a natural state of relaxation and empowers us to access the tools for wellness that already exist within ourselves.

Technically, hypnotherapy is the method of opening up the subconscious mind. Once the subconscious mind is opened two things can occur: the removal of old, unhealthy thoughts and the replacement of them with new powerful, healthy thoughts.

Participants come searching for help in specific areas of their life, but they notice their whole life begins to change after hypnotherapy. They notice a renewed interest in life, a desire to take care of their body, their relationships improve, they release things that no longer serve them, they finish or start new projects, and sometimes they even change careers. Hypnotherapy changes your life because it changes your deeper mind.

Why does hypnosis work?

Most people spend their entire lives not knowing why they are a particular way or why they can't lose weight or quit smoking or find joy or a life partner. The problem is that they are attempting to change what is on the computer screen without reprogramming the hard drive. In other words, they are not getting to the source of the problem--their subconscious thought, which is the driving mechanism of our experience. Hypnois bypasses the conscious mind to access the deeper thoughts, beliefs, memories and feelings of the subconscious. From there, lasting positive change can be made.

What is the role of the hypnotherapist?

Cynthia considers herself a de-hypnotherapist. She helps people undo their negative programming. Cynthia navigates or guides participants within in order to release the thoughts and feelings—the blocks, fears, guilt, anger, and anxieties, etc.—that are standing in the way of their super conscious mind. There is only one thing wrong with your life: you are being run by the wrong program. We are the walking wounded, holding onto pain and suffering not recognizing that there is another way of living.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Hypnosis is a peaceful state of stillness. The hypnotic state is pleasant; you feel mentally very calm and content, relaxed, focused and alert. It is a form of deep mental and physical relaxation. Of course, depending on the type of session, in a therapeutic setting traumatic memories or feelings may come up to be processed, but you will always feel better after the session.

How do you put people into hypnosis?

There are many ways of inducing someone into a trance (in other words, getting someone to relax). There are very quick rapid inductions and slow soothing inductions. No swinging watches are involved. I will lead you into relaxation through progressive relaxation.

Will I go to sleep?

No. Hypnosis is not sleep. When you sleep, your conscious mind sleeps. In hypnosis, your conscious mind is still functioning quietly in the background, which is why 50%-100% of those hypnotized hear and remember everything said to them during a session. The level of trance is dependent on the type of session. However, if you are super tired, you just might drift off to sleep because hypnotherapy is so relaxing!

Will I be under someone else's control?

No. This is the most widespread myth about hypnosis. It may appear as if subjects in stage hypnosis are being controlled, but in reality they are just very relaxed and uninhibited, often selected for their exhibitionist tendencies and suggestibility. Nobody can be hypnotized against his or her will. In a group setting, there is less "suggestion" therapy, whereby the hypnothearpist makes suggestion, and rather more "exploratory" therapy, where I am simply a guide to your own internal authority.

Does hypnosis really work?

Yes! Studies abound with scientific proof of the efficacy of hypnosis.

Can I get stuck?

No. Like coming out of a nap, you would eventually awaken on your own, only more refreshed.

Has anyone ever been injured by hypnosis?

There are no documented cases of anyone injured or hurt using hypnosis in a clinical setting.

Why don't more people use hypnosis?

They are! We believe hypnosis is the healing modality of the future. With all the publicity and support that hypnotherapy is getting, it's just a matter of time before society realizes that the old ideas about hypnosis, as portrayed by Hollywood as a mind control with walking zombies, are just that: old. Hypnosis is rapidly coming out of the closet. As more people learn that healing is in the mind, they are seeking hypnotherapists.

Many participants say that they've already tried everything to resolve their issue but to no avail. Those who are disillusioned with more traditional routes, because they are not getting effective results, are finding help with hypnotherapists.

Is Cynthia available for private sessions?

If it were possible to give every participant a private session, Cynthia would not hesitate! However, with the demands of an intensive retreat, the schedule does not allow for private sessions. Cynthia no longer offers private sessions to the public, as her sole focus is on creating the best retreat experience in the world. She does have over 45 downloadable hypnotherapy session MP3s available for $1.99 each on her website. Participants of Desert Reset will receive all of these sessions for free upon registration (over $100 value)!
